Central Fire Station

600 Wood St

Central Fire Station opened in 1930 under Fire Chief A.J. Bethancourt and is the oldest continuously operating station in the city. Originaly operating as a fire station and police station, central housed an engine company, the Fire Chief, dispatch and the police department. The police department moved out in the 1970's and it now houses the Training, Maintenance and Inspection/Prevention divisions, as well as the Fire Chief. This is also where the District Fire Chiefs' office is located. The tower that stands in front of Central, originaly had a water tank on top that feed the first pressurized water system in the city.
